The Shelby Foundation established the Women’s Fund in 2009 to empower women in this area to achieve their full potential. Proceeds accumulated by the fund are distributed to Shelby area programs promoting intellectual, physical, emotional, social, economic, and cultural growth for women.
The fund has already made its presence felt with programs like the Plymouth-Shiloh School District’s implemented “Girls in Motion” female fitness and nutrition initiative, which was made possible by a $1,200 grant from the Women’s Fund of The Shelby Foundation. However, the focus of the fund isn’t just for school-aged girls. In the upcoming months, the Women’s Fund is putting on a three-part lecture and open-forum discussion series, “Let’s Talk: Woman to Woman” on issues relevant to adult women from a female perspective.
Join other ladies for a fun, light-hearted evening of networking and refreshments while listening to professionals who are experts in their field discuss topics that impact women.
The series will kick off on Monday, May 2, with speaker Melissa Juliano, D.O., who will present on physical and sexual health. Dr. Juliano, who is known for her vibrant and refreshing no nonsense approach, will discuss problems that most women experience but are too embarrassed to talk about.
On Monday, July 11, Shelby native Linda Whited, manager of Richland Bank, Shelby, will give smart money advice. Money Tips 101 will feature solid guidance from managing your household’s finances to saving for a rainy day.
The third and final presentation of 2016, on Monday, September 12, will focus on work/home balance, which is a challenge for most women. OhioHealth President of Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals Jean Halpin will talk about communication, simplifying, and overcoming guilt that women often share when they can’t be in two places.
Programs will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Vault. Light hor d’oeuvres will be provided; cash bar. The programs are free and open to the public, but registration is requested.
