The Shelby YMCA will observe Memorial Day on May 30 with “A Run to Remember” themed race, sponsored by OhioHealth. Proceeds from the red-white-and-blue event will benefit The Shelby Foundation and the Shelby YMCA.
We all have someone in our lives who has left a lasting effect on us. Memorial Day is a time for reflection and honoring the important men and women who served our country. Race participants will have the opportunity to wear a racing bib in honor of a special person, past or present.
Shelby YMCA Board Member Tiffany Curry said, “This is a run to remember the special heroes in our lives. As we reflect this Memorial Day, we want to honor those who have left a lasting legacy in our hearts. The Shelby Foundation does so much for this community and helping people leave their own legacy. Donating half the proceeds from the race to the Foundation is one way we can show our appreciation.”
The Shelby Foundation is a nonprofit organization that gives back to Shelby’s community and surrounding areas through its grant-making abilities. In the last decade, the Foundation has awarded over $1,000,000 to nearly sixty area nonprofit organizations that serve Shelby residents and the surrounding area.
The race will step off at 7:30 a.m. at Black Fork Commons. The challenging course offers participants two options: a two-and-a-half mile 4K or a five-mile 8K. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers, male and female classes, in both races. Racers are encouraged to stay and walk in the 10 a.m. parade following the race.
Ohio Race Day will manage and time the event which features a $20 entry fee. Runners who register before May 17 will receive a T-shirt bearing the race logo. Visit ohioraceday.com to register or contact the Shelby YMCA at 419-347-1312.
